Fun Ways to Teach Your Toddler How to Count
One of the most important milestones in your child’s early childhood education is learning how to count, and it can be a lot of fun for them as well. Here are some easy ways to get started teaching your toddler how to count:
- Use pictures. Draw pictures that have one, two, three, etc. objects in them, and ask your child which picture has more or less than another picture.
- Create a game where they have to find each object by counting them out loud (e.g., “one orange,” “two bananas,” etc.). This will also help them build their vocabulary skills as well as improve their memory skills since they’ll need to remember what each item looks like if they want to win the game.
- Make songs about counting with rhymes that go along with each number (e.g., “One, two, buckle my shoe; three, four, shut the door; five, six, pick up sticks”).
